Isaiah Stevens to play in NBA Summer League with Miami Heat

The NBA Draft has come and gone without Isaiah Stevens hearing his name called. The 6-foot, 180-pound point guard was considered a long shot to be selected over the two-day event. Fortunately for Stevens, and for all of Ram Nation who will be cheering him on, the legendary Colorado State star will have an opportunity to prove himself in the summer league with the Miami Heat.

DNVR has confirmed through sources from the program that Stevens and Miami have agreed to an exhibit 10 deal which could later be converted to a two-way contract. Stevens may not have gotten to experience the thrill of being one of the 58 players selected this spring. He will, however, essentially have the same opportunity that second round picks traditionally get.

Stevens is the most accomplished player in school history. The five-year starter is CSU’s all-time leader in games played (153), points scored (2,350) and assists distributed (863). He also happened to go undefeated against the drafted players that he faced this season.

He may not be the biggest player on the floor but he is almost always the savviest. Stevens is a consistent 3-point shooter and a guy that has consistently been able to get to his spots throughout his collegiate career.

Obviously there are a lot of factors that go into making an NBA roster. After covering this young man for half of a decade though, it truly would not surprise me to see him outperform the national expectations of him. Stevens is one of the smartest and least selfish stars that has ever donned the Green & Gold. Turning doubters into believers is one of his many specialties.
