Chris Harris is NFL's best cornerback

The best cornerback in the NFL in 2014 wasn’t Richard Sherman or Darrelle Revis. According to Pro Football Focus’ top 101 players of 2014, that title belongs to Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr.

He was thrown at 89 times during the season but did not allow a single touchdown. He allowed 46 receptions (51.7%), but those catches went for an average of just 7.7 yards per catch and he wasn’t beaten for a pass longer than 22 yards all season. He notched three interceptions and 10 passes defensed, and when thrown at he yielded a passer rating of just 47.8.

Those raw coverage numbers compare pretty closely to Sherman. They are better in all areas than Revis, and when you combine both of those two coverage grades they only just top the +27.2 that Harris was able to post on his own.

Harris claimed the top corner spot on this list ahead of Indianapolis’ Vontae Davis who ranked as the 6th overall player. Harris didn’t make this list at all in 2013, and has earned his way into the top five in a season where he was coming off of a torn ACL.

For what it’s worth, Richard Sherman came in at 17th overall and Revis followed behind him at 29th overall. Other Broncos players that were featured on the list include, Von Miller (10th), Emmanuel Sanders (42nd), Malik Jackson (43rd), Demaryius Thomas (45th), CJ Anderson (50th), and Brandon Marshall (60th).

Peyton Manning was absent from this list altogether while seven other quarterbacks were featured.
